Maximizing San Diego's Global Identity Through San Diego Sister City Relationships

Updated: Feb 9

As a member of the City of San Diego's International Affairs Board (IAB) and Chairing the IAB Sister Cities Committee for more than a year (2022–2023), I have been delving into the transformative potential of sister city partnerships. These relationships highlight the significant influence of citizen diplomacy, cultural exchange, and economic cooperation in creating connections worldwide. Active involvement in the San Diego's Sister Cities Societies has profoundly inspired me with their mission to foster global peace and cross-cultural understanding.

In March 2023, I had the honor of joining the International Business Affairs Forum organized by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, as the Chair of IAB Sister Cities Committee, where I delivered the opening remarks.

The session continued with an inspiring panel discussion focused on strengthening international connections through the San Diego Sister City Societies with esteemed panelists including the Deputy Consul General of Japan, the Consul General of Kenya, and the Executive Director of SANDISCA.

San Diego, the eighth largest city in the United States, has leveraged its strategic position to bolster its economy by attracting foreign investment to its life sciences sector, tech industry, universities, and overall quality of life. To enhance global interactions, San Diego has established sixteen Sister Cities Societies to facilitate cultural, educational, business, and technical exchanges.
